It's a big win early in the year, and I just wanted to say thank you!
Thanks to your help, the House and Senate conference committee announced that it cut $1 billion slated for the National Nuclear Security Administration, which oversees the nuclear weapons complex. This is $1 billion of taxpayers' money that can be used more effectively to help our economy during this crisis, rather than be invested in nuclear weapons infrastructure.
Thousands of Peace Action West supporters helped create this victory by emailing and calling their Senators and sending letters to the editor to spotlight this wasteful spending.
President Obama's administration will complete a review of US nuclear weapons policy by the end of the year. He endorses the vision of a nuclear weapons free world, and we need to show our support for it, too. The inclusion of $1 billion for nuclear weapons work in the stimulus in the first place shows that there are some members of Congress who don't agree with that vision.
To build on the momentum of this win, take the next step and sign the Campaign for a Nuclear Weapons Free World's petition to President Obama by clicking here.
With more than 50,000 signatures, this petition can help demonstrate that the public supports the vision of a nuclear weapons free world, and wants to see concrete progress towards that goal. Peace Action West was one six founding members of the Campaign for a Nuclear Weapons Free World, a new consortium of more than 100 organizations nationwide promoting practical steps today to eliminate nuclear weapons tomorrow.
