Hi Reva,
I have been part of Peace Action for the past couple of years, working as a canvasser and now as a member. I see the fundamental problem of allowing our tax money to go to a bottomless pit available to the Pentagons whims of war, be it Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Somalia..., as the problem that haunts and taunts us throughout all out peace work. My question is, does Peace Action ever lobby to simply cut the defense budget to a level that would not even allow for extra spending beyond defense? This may sound like a silly question, but I ask myself and other's this all the time, why can't we regulate this, so that if the Pentagon needed money they would actually have to obtain voter approval directly?

The Fissile Cutoff Treaty, in my oniipon, has been outmoded by passing events. Its relevance to arms control and treaty reductions does not have the importance it had during the Cold War. The superpowers are not really producing fissile materials for weapons, and the main problem is to urge them to expand the process of fissile-material conversion to reactor grade so that nuclear weapons can be irreversibly demilitarized.Demilitarization of weapon-grade nuclear materials is an ongoing and commercially successful activity, especially for France, Russia, and the United States, and it is the way to go to support meaningful and irreversible nuclear reductions. One of the problems with the FMCT is that its proponents have long been co-opted by individuals who have an agenda of minimizing or interfering with the growth of nuclear reactors around the world. However, nuclear reactors are exactly what’s needed to the commercially successful and irreversible conversion of existing fissile materials. –Alex DeVolpiIncidentally, I like your communication outreach through Facebook and this Blog.

You're incorrect, and misleading.
Incorrect in that, voters will decide in *more* than 2 weeks (Jan. 31st, to be precise).
Misleading in that "thousands of dollars" aren't coming into this race... *Millions* of dollars are, from D.C. special interest groups... to help Bonamici.
I don't know how many people read this blog, but you're doing every last one of them a disservice.

Yes. You bet I'm smarter than the Pentagon. If I had my way there would be no military budget at all and the dude who rules the Fed would be washing dishes in a German restaurant. The point it, the Pentagon is only a pile of stones, steel, cement, etc. all woven together in warp and woof intricacies. It has no arms, it has no brain, it is not smart within the normal denote of that word. If the question actually refers to the warmongers housed in Pengaton office, they're very smart people, but the danger to our U.S.America rest upon how their brains are programmed, constituting a rigid paradigm from which they cannot escape. Pity poor U.S.America.
